Yeah, I've been away for a while-blame general life-craziness. Which I expect to continue; life is just like that sometimes. But at least I got this done.

So I sat down to work on one of my in-process fics, and instead this came out:

It's good and bad; good in that I'm finally getting some more fic done, bad in that I REALLY wanted to work on the multi-chapter one that's been eating my brain, because Life is about to get busy and I may not have time for it for the next couple of months (Wah!). OTOH, this one is FINISHED! Enjoy.

Finally we're having nice enough weather that the snow is gone. That usually means it'll be about 15 minutes before it's too hot for comfort, but I suppose that's life. Why do I live in this climate, again?

The sock I'm knitting (first one!) is approaching the heel, after having been ripped back at least 8 times in order to keep it from looking like one of Gwendal's projects. At present, it looks pretty nice, but the tricky bit is coming up. And I have a LOT more sympathy for Gwendal after doing this!

And as soon as I get through the next round of Life Maintenance (dentist, car tune up, haircut, cat vet appointments, etc.) I think I will start posting my fic-in-process, because otherwise I am never going to get it finished, for sure. And it's too late for New Years Resolutions. If I post, I figure there's at least a 50-50 chance (and people will nag me).

So it's April, right? Spring? You can tell because the rivers are flooding and the robins are back, right?

And this morning, I woke up to two inches of snow on the ground, and more coming down outside. It was the kind of snow that only falls in warmish weather, where the flakes stick together and come down in big clumps and stick to everything. It would have been pretty, if it wasn't APRIL. There will be riots in the north, if this goes on.

Mother Nature has a sick sense of humor sometimes.

It's been days since it was clear and sunny, but today it is. And warm, even! Well, by comparison--it's supposed to get up into the mid-fifties (F) today, after being BELOW ZERO last week. Even in Minnesota, it is not supposed to be BELOW ZERO in MARCH.

I am SO ready for winter to be over.

So I'm getting ready to head home after collecting all Dad's info for the tax guy (never mind that I still have my own taxes to do), and I manage to sideswipe the retaining wall and slice open my tire. Which meant half an hour spent changing the tire and another hour getting to the tire store and getting a replacement (drive 400+ miles on the temporary donut? I think NOT!)

At least the drive was nice and boring once I actually got on the road.

tsutsuji passed along this meme:

So here are my entries. All of them are from as-yet-unfinished things-that-are-supposed-to-be-in-process; none of them and no parts of any of them have been posted anywhere.

And tsutsuji is right: it made me want to work on all of them again. At once.

Her long hair lifted and spread out around her like the tangled roots of the trees of Broceliande, and the shadows of the trees and the forest and the earth itself were caught and held in the net of her hair.

It is a hard thing to lose one's future at fourteen.

He was a knight without armor, and she was a witch without magic.

Listen, it's only fairy tales that start "once upon a time;" war stories are supposed to start "No shit, there I was."

Weapons were supposed to be disallowed in the entertainment 'clubs, but no one had asked her to leave her nightcloak at the door.

"Keep walking!" she shouted, and then her hand reached him and passed through his flesh.

"I'm afraid your house has a hobgoblin, Michael."

She may not even have cheated.

As the net of ropes came free, the net of spells settled to replace it, and clear and plain, she felt the tracks of magic.

The red emblem that it left behind was no mere ink stamp; the seal spell had altered the color of the fibers of the paper.

I still did not trust him, but he was someone new to talk to . . . and he was an ordinary person, with no dark shapechanging secrets to hide.

Though she hated the law and custom that forced her to use her husband's throne in his absence, she thought she would enjoy the irony of sitting in it to hear of his death.

Her broad bare feet pounded the earth in a slow, steady rhythm, beating back the death of crops and barring it from the village fields, and she could sense the change as she passed.

I am reminded of why I took so long to sign up for LJ--who actually wants to hear about how many inches worth of files I got through yesterday? At least the list of missing-info-needed-for-Dad's-taxes is shorter this year. Maybe next year I'll have it all ready in January? (I WISH.)

And of course as soon as I'm done here, I get to drive back to Minneapolis and do my own taxes. What fun.

I had a "productive" day yesterday. Meaning, lots of important Real Life stuff got done, but no writing and no anime. I didn't even get the cast-on done for my first attempt at a sock. Being a responsible person is a pain.

Having been finally persuaded to get an LJ account, I now have to figure out  how to use it. I'm figuring on posting some of my fanfic, once I figure out how to work it. Meantime, please be patient.
